The Gallery: Easter

I've already blogged about the fun we've had over the Easter Weekend, but I had to join in on this weeks The Gallery.

For the first time in about 20 years we went egg rolling. Every Easter, we used to go with my grandparents and roll our eggs in the Glen through in their town. We would paint them the night before and have a competition to see whose egg would last the longest before breaking. My Grandad's would always last the longest. Then after he passed away, the tradition kind of ended.

So this year, we decided to resurrect (pardon the pun!) the tradition again with the wee one. My husband and I decorated the eggs the night before, and met my sister and her fiancé at the park. We got so many great shots of the egg rolling, but these are my favourites:

Easter Fun

I was very pleased when I got my work rota and saw that I had Easter weekend off. Well, despite being night shift on Thursday into Friday, and back on night shift on Monday night. It's been a while since I've had the full holiday weekend off, and the weather forecast was looking very promising.

The weather turned out beautiful; lots of sun, but not too hot with a bit of a breeze. Great drying weather! (Argh, that's a phrase my mother uses). It's the kind of weather where you go looking for washing to do, just to get it out and drying. Is there anything nicer than the smell of fresh, line dried washing?

Saturday night was spent decorating our eggs for rolling the next day. My family used to spend Easter through at my grandparents in Fife every year. It was always a tradition to decorate eggs then take then to the Glen to roll them. My grandad was always the winner. After my grandad died, we never really did it again, but this year my sister suggested we take the wee one to the park and start the tradition up again.

Here's our eggs. You can tell my husband's were much more thought out than mine!

On Sunday, we went to church, husband in tow for a change (he doesn't do church). It was also great to see friends who have moved on to other churches there too. I attend the Salvation Army, and on Easter Sunday the band march through the streets of the town. I don't play in the band anymore, however the wee one and I joined in the march behind the band, with my husband reluctantly following beside on the pavement.

Here's the view from inside the march:

And the followers:

I was having a discussion at work with a colleague who said you only see the Salvation Army at Christmas. Well, they're visible at Easter too!

After church, hubby, the wee one and I went to the park to meet my sister and her fiancé. It was super busy, but the weather was gorgeous. Perfect for a kick about with the football!

We took a picnic, and chilled out in the sunshine until my sister arrived. Then the egg rolling commenced!

The eggs seemed indestructible. Maybe I boiled them for too long! But, it seemed like this hill was Superman's kryptonite:

Poor Superman.

After egg rolling it was time for a rest before heading home.

But not before one last kick about:

It's been lovely having family time. It's rare for us. Hopefully we won't have to wait for another bank holiday to have more.

A favourite place.

It's been a while since I've blogged. I'm not quite sure why. I think it's partly due to rubbish work shifts causing lack of family time, and it's been bringing me down a little. I seem to spend most of my day dream moments planning how I would use that elusive lottery money.

However, I thought I'd take part in this weeks Gallery. As I write, I'm sitting at my back door, and the wee one is playing with bubbles in the garden. They say home is where the heart is. Well, my heart is with her. Wherever she is, is home to me. And that is my favourite place to be.
